WAFA - M.K. -  The Israeli demolition of a kindergarten in the Bedouin community of Jabal al-Baba, east of Jerusalem, was highlighted on the front page of the Tuesday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published in Ramallah and Jerusalem.

Al-Ayyam, which publishes in Ramallah, said the Israeli occupation demolished the kindergarten in spite of the fact that it was built with European Union funding and had EU emblems on its walls to protect it against Israeli action. Israel also seized the school’s furnishings in an added punitive measure.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, which also publishes in Ramallah, also gave prominence to this subject and said the demolition of the kindergarten is a step toward pushing all Palestinians living in that area and nearby areas known as E1 out of it under the pretext of construction without permit to prepare it for building a new settlement that will divide the West Bank in half and separate East Jerusalem from its Palestinian environs.

Al-Quds, which publishes in occupied East Jerusalem, has also highlighted this issue and added that Israel demolished as well a house under construction in Barta’a, a village within the “green line,” the 1967 border between Israel from the West Bank.

Al-Quds published on its front page an introduction to an exclusive interview with the British Minister of State for Middle East Affairs Alistair Burt, which it said will be published in full on Thursday. It said that Burt is going to meet Foreign Minister Riyad Malki in Ramallah on Tuesday and the Israelis on Wednesday.

Burt visited the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to the paper, and said that the situation there is tragic.

In other news, the papers also highlighted a statement by the president’s office regarding the 48th anniversary for the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque and said that the presidency called for international protection for the Muslim holy places in Jerusalem that are under Israeli occupation.

Al-Ayyam said Saudi Arabia has announced that Wednesday is the first day of the Muslim Hijra month of Thouel Hijjeh, which means that Thursday, August 31, is the main Hajj day in Mecca and the next day, Friday, September 1, is the first day of the four day al-Adha holiday.

The paper said the Israeli government has justified its settlers’ land grab policy in the occupied Palestinian territories and decided that the illegal, according to Israeli classification, settlement outposts were legal and do not violate international law.

It said a settlement group is inciting against the new Palestinian city of Rawabi, built by the private sector on Palestinian land in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and is calling for shutting down its main road.

The paper said an Israeli court has remanded the custody of Raed Salah, head of the outlawed Islamic Movement in Israel, until Thursday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said gunmen opened fire at Hamas posts in Rafah in the Gaza Strip and threw hand grenades at others.
