RFI -  Nicolas Ropert - It is this weekend (June 20, 2015) that the first inhabitants of Rawabi could move in their homes. The first new Palestinian city, north of Ramallah, should ultimately accommodate up to 40,000 future inhabitants. Launched in 2007, this mammoth project has cost a billion US Dollars, equivalent to 880 million Euros, partly funded by Qatar. But Palestinian critics were quick to condemn this construction of unprecedented magnitude. Some even called Rawabi a “Palestinian settlement” and villagers around fear of the consequences.

Nicolas Ropert, our correspondent in the region made the visit.
