Rawabi, the first preplanned Palestinian city, is ready to welcome its first residents this week.

It is located north of Ramallah and should eventually accommodate up to 40,000 people. Launched in 2007, this mammoth project cost just over one billion francs partly funded by Qatar. Critics of the Palestinians were quick to condemn against these constructions of unprecedented magnitude. Some have called Rawabi a “Palestinian colony” and Palestinian villagers are concerned about its consequences.
